The compromise
Many organisations have looked at ways to enable their people to work across firewalls.
One survey highlighted that 70% of IT professionals knew or believed that their employees have business data residing within their personal file-sharing accounts. In another survey 46% of employees admitted to using their own file sharing solution to share confidential documents.
It’s a security and compliance nightmare. Personal, sensitive and financial data where it shouldn’t be and there’s little or no control over it. It’s certainly a compromise.
Many organisations revert to using email; it’s convenient but again it’s a compromise
- Email is open so can be easily penetrated by bad actors
- Email is a frequent source of data breaches e.g. mis-addressing emails
- Email requires the recipient to store the attached files and work around size limitations
